Cycle Chilterns summer Bikeability sessions give children more confidence!

Morning Bikeability level 1 session at Amersham
Over two weeks, 37 children took part in a successful series of Bikeability courses run by the Cycle Chilterns in Tring and Amersham.

For anyone not familiar with Bikeability, it is the new 'cycling proficiency'. Two levels were offered during the week, with Level 1 covering basic bike skills in a playground and Level 2 covering road skills. The course aims to give children more confidence and awareness of being on the road.

Many parents signed up for the course to give them a bit of peace of mind for when their children cycle with their friends on the road, arming them with the right skills and increasing their awareness.

Included in the week-long course was also a led ride with children and parents, so that they can see what their child had learnt. This is a slight variation to normal courses run during the school term, where there is less opportunity to do this. The parents who joined in the rides thoroughly enjoyed them and were pleased to be able to see the on-road improvements in their children.

Most importantly, parents were thrilled with the confidence boost in their children, with one parent saying that it’s now difficult trying to get his child off the bike!

All feedback received was very positive with the children thoroughly enjoying their sessions thanks to the excellent instructors, who have been described as friendly, approachable and encouraging. Many families are also cycling more following the course, which is exactly the type of result that the project is looking for.

A well run course that can't be faulted, friendly teachers - all children should attend. Can't recommend it highly enough!
