Joy Lummis is a volunteer ride leader for Breeze, a UK-wide network, run by British Cycling, offering rides to women, having trained as a ride leader in June 2011. In the seven years since, Joy has led more than 300 Breeze rides, as well as more than 100 rides for the British Cycling Guided Ride Programme and her local council. Joy set up Breezelancs and the ride social group Team Potty Mouth. She’s also a co-ordinator in Manchester for the Guided Ride programme.

Joy says: "I love the freedom you get from cycling; it reminds me of carefree days playing out with my mates. I love the friendships I have made through cycling and all the fun and laughter we have! I love knowing I can always find someone to go and ride with whenever and wherever. I love the little victories that you can help people achieve through cycling, whether it's by getting a bit further up a hill or pushing yourself to ride a little bit further, or even just turning out in the rain!

"It's done so much for my own confidence and I want to share it with everyone and show them what they are capable of and how it improves the rest of your life."

Cycling UK's 100 Women in Cycling is an annual list celebrating inspirational women who are encouraging others to take part in this wonderful and life-enhancing activity
