About us
Velo Moira is welcoming of all cyclists with our current membership including a wide range of ages and a growing number of female riders. For more information about joining VM see our Membership Information page, where you will find an application form.
Our Saturday social ride attracts the most VM members as we usually put out three groups of riders catering for all abilities. There is normally a longer tempo ride on a Sunday, and in true cycling tradition all weekend rides include a café stop for coffee and cake. More details on our weekly rides can be found on our FB page.
We meet at 0815 for an 0830 depart from the Moira Furnace car park.. Each group has a nominated Ride Leader who is responsible for the route and maintaining the pace to suit the ability of the group as a whole. We allocate the groups in advance and keep the group sizes to around 8 which we have found adds to the safety and enjoyment of all riders.
We also have occasional social evenings where members can meet up to have something to eat and a drink (or two) and discuss all things cycling related!

Club Rides
We currently have rides on a Saturday and Sunday with the Saturday ride being a more sociable ride. All VM rides are ridden to the pace directed by the Ride Leader. The group may be split according to numbers and ability. A few noteworthy points about our rides are:
- All rides will have a nominated Ride Leader who is an experienced cyclist and is responsible for rider safety, group discipline and maintaining the pace to suit the group.
- New members are welcome to ride with us up to a maximum of three rides, then we must ask that you become a member; for more information see our Membership page.
- All rides will start at the specified time, so it is advised to arrive at least 15 minutes before this time so that organising groups and any other pre-ride safety briefing can take place with everybody there.
- The first rule of all VM rides is that no-one is left behind. Please also see our Code of Conduct page.
-
Club rides may be cancelled if riding conditions are deemed to be unsafe by club officials, such as in icy conditions. Ride cancellations will be posted on our Facebook page, usually at least 1 hour before the ride start time.
All rides start from Moira furnace car park.
