About us
Preston Pedals’ is a not for profit, co-operatively run cycle organisation in Preston enabling Preston communities to access and get on their bikes, and reduce waste by recycling bikes
Our vision - Preston as a place where everyone in the community benefits from more people cycling, where everyone can experience the benefits of owning, maintaining and riding their own bike.
Aims -To actively break down barriers to cycling and promote the benefits of cycling, especially of cycling those short everyday journeys, to as many people as we can.
Ethos - At Preston Pedals we believe that more people cycling is better for our health and wellbeing as well as our environment.
What we do
We bring people together to improve access to cycling. Our friendly and welcoming bike mechanics and ride leaders refurbish bicycles; fix and show people how to repair their bicycles and offer social cycle rides.
In summary Preston Pedals:
1. Refurbishes used bikes - we accept bike donations and refurbish second hand bikes donated from the public giving them a new lease of life and saving them from going to landfill.
2. Offers cycle repair and maintenance - we work in communities to support everyone who wants to learn how to repair and maintain their bicycle, upskilling and educating them to increase confidence in looking after bikes. We also offer Fix/Dr Bike sessions.
3. Support to ride – we help to build the confidence of cyclists, especially newbie and less experienced cyclists through social led rides that are fun!
4. Develops a cycling culture - growing a community who cycle, and a culture of everyday cycling in Preston for proven benefits for health, wellbeing and improving our environment.
So far, we have been kindly supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, Preston City Council, Cycling UK Big Bike Revival, Preston Co-operative Development Network (PCDN), and Lancashire County Council Active Travel Team.
Bike donations always gratefully received!
