The Wold Traverse

The Wold Traverse - 100 k Audax

Sunday 19th September 2021

Many thanks to Alan Hockham for organising this year’s Cycling UK Louth Audax ride with very special thanks to John and Celia Ambler, Barry Jordan, Jim Brennan and Reg Bagshaw for helping out at the controls.

The weather forecast was ominous, with the Meteorological Office having issued 'Yellow' warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms leading to localised flooding! Luckily on arrival at Legbourne Picnic site warm hazy sunshine was beaming down and with light winds and temperatures already at near 18 degrees Celsius, all looked perfect for the start at 09.30 am.

The route had been altered since its inception in 2019 and 25 riders were ready to set off on schedule, 11 alone form Louth Cycle Club. Many thanks to Jason Bartup for encouraging such a great turn out. There was also a good representation from Wongers Wheelers and it was super to have John Rickett and Mike Leverton sign up for the ride too. We also had a couple from Sherwood CC who had cycled all the way to enter the event, and for alone rider it was his first time on a bike for nearly 5 years. Fantastic support.

John and Celia were stationed near Swallow and several riders commented on the scrumptious homemade Parkin. Thanks Celia!

Plenty of activity too in Binbrook with their 'Fair' in full swing. We were very grateful to Barry for helping with the control and of course the B17 Café who had opened up specially for us.

Along the winding lanes and Reg would also offer support and refreshment at South Thoresby Quarry.

For the earliest arrivals, a local thunderstorm at Little Cawthorpe resulted in a wet finish but for the majority of the riders, a narrow lane of fine weather meant that a dry ride was enjoyed.

Many thanks to all the helpers and of course the entrants who gave such great support.
