Wednesday Wander to Woodthorpe 09-10-2024
Cycling UK Louth’s Wednesday Wander to Woodthorpe 9th October 2024
Ride Leader and Ride Report John Rickett: Following an earlier request for a Wednesday Wander to Gunby Hall, our leader and mentor (Tim, in case anyone should be unsure) duly planned a route and scheduled it for today. The best laid plans … as they say, and with Tim still feeling out of sorts there were just two takers for the ride - Ty Harness and John Rickett. With a forecast of increasing winds and the likelihood of rain later it was decided to save Gunby Hall for another day and just ride to Woody's at Woodthorpe.
The intrepid duo set off taking the familiar route of Stewton Lane, the Carltons, Gayton Top, Withern and Woodthorpe. Dryish roads but with autumn's habit depositing leaves, twigs and muddy puddles made for a bit of extra concentration but with the benefit of a back wind the pair arrived without breaking into a sweat! Ty commented that twenty years ago he had been involved with the construction of the golf driving range so a brief stop was made for the obligatory, but appropriate, photo of the completed works.
After the equally obligatory coffee and bacon roll had been consumed, the pair set off again for the crossroads, where Ty continued back to Alford and John returned to Louth via Claythorpe MIll (now looking deserted) Authorpe, Muckton and Little Cawthorpe. The weather forecasters had been telling fibs again as the winds didn't seem to increase neither did the rain arrive, which was good for us but we were left thinking they really ought to change their sea weed.
