Wednesday Wander to Mablethorpe 18-02-26

Cycling UK Louth’s Wednesday Wander to Mablethorpe 18th February 2026.

Ride Report: John Rickett.
With the wind forecast to be from the south east a ride was planned which would ensure an easier return – Mablethorpe, slot machine mecca.

Waiting at the Meridian Centre at 10.00 there was but one member. Our leader had forewarned that he would be venturing into no-man’s land, Holderness (let’s hope he gets out alive) and the other generally unwavering participants had other things to do, so there was only John Rickett to carry the banner.

Dry roads for once made riding quite pleasant heading out through Stewton and Manby, where the police were attending an incident, then the Carltons and left onto Lordship Lane (attractively named given my lifelong aspirations) and onto Theddlethorpe. With not many trees and the wind seemingly increasing it was a bit of a push all the way to Mablethorpe.

Arriving at the leisure centre at 11.15 showed that the wind had made it hard going. Time for a cup of coffee and the obligatory dry scone before gaining help from the wind for the return trip via Maltby-le-Marsh, Strubby, Withern, the Carltons (again) Legbourne and Stewton. The return trip only took an hour so a self-congratulatory cup of coffee was taken at the Meridian Centre.

For once this winter, the bike didn’t need hosing down. If the forecasters can be trusted the next week should see it getting warmer so the planned trip to Ulceby Cross on Sunday could be a good one….if you don’t mind getting wet!
