Cycling UK Louth's Wednesday Wander 20th March 2024
Vernal Equinox - First Day of Meteorological Spring.
Ride Report and Photo's: John Rickett.

Wednesday’s forecast did not look particularly promising and with Tim on a North Sea sojourn it was down to the rank and file to fly the flag. Needless to say, Paul Linder and John Rickett showed up at the Meridian Centre just before 10.00, to be joined by prospective member Martin (surname needed Tim),  at this point there was only slight drizzle.

A decision was made to return to Stables restaurant at Maltby le Marsh, the rationale being that it wasn’t very far, the food was good and more importantly Paul needed another stamp on his loyalty card. It wasn’t long before the rain increased, though not by much but sufficiently to warrant donning rain jackets.

The outward journey was the familiar route via Stewton Lane, Furze Lane, the Carltons, Gayton Top and then the A157 to Maltby. Not much traffic to bother the trio and with a favourable wind they soon arrived at the Stables, to be greeted by Poppy who demanded to know why the venue had been forsaken by Steve Croton – perhaps its best not to delve any deeper!

Following the energy boost of coffee, toast and a variety of toppings and with the weather brightening, the return journey was made via Rye Lane to Claythorpe, Station Farm at Authorpe, Muckton, Little Cawthorpe and finally the Meridian Centre, arriving at 1300 ish.

All agreed it had been worth turning out, the small amount of rain not really spoiling the ride.

Well done to Martin for boosting the numbers, hope to see you again soon.

(Editor's Note: Well done all, Tim's front garden rain gauge was overflowing later in the afternoon!)
