Ty's Wolds Ride 20th July 2025

Group of people riding
Today's ride was described as a picnic ride in the Wolds, but the forecast was "wet, wet, wet," so on paper this was going to be no picnic.  Despite an awful weather forecast that would have scared off most but the hardiest of cyclists, today's riders pressed on. The group consisted of Ty Harness (Louth), Alan Hockham (Mablethorpe), Paul Linder (Alford), and John Weeks (Horncastle).

The group made good progress to South Ormsby without encountering a drop of rain. Alas, the Sheep Dip Paddock was all locked up, so we had to find an alternative picnic site. St Leonard’s Church was all fenced off because the tower stonework had fallen away.  We made the most of it!

We said our goodbyes to Paul, who headed back to Alford via Calceby. Ty, Alan, and John continued into the hilly part of the ride, starting from Tetford and rising up Nab Hill. We took a brief rest at the top to admire the view and say goodbye to John, who turned off toward Horncastle.

Ty and Alan enjoyed the fast descent along Furlongs Lane and through Fulletby, then climbed out of Belchford back up to the Bluestone Heath Road. They returned to Louth via Oslear's Lane, Maiden Well, and Haugham, crossing London Road for a fast descent through Haugham Readings to Little Cawthorpe.

Still no rain in sight, we arrived back at the Meridian Leisure Centre, Louth, by 12:30 p.m.
