Cycling UK Wednesday Wander to Tetney 30th July 2025:

Just under 30 miles for today’s ‘Wander’ to the café at Tetney Golf Club and the sun was shining down as we met up at Louth’s Meridian Leisure Centre. Joining Tim Newbery were John Rickett, Alan Hockham, Ty Harness, Paul Linder and Rob Cook.

A brisk north westerly breeze would slow our progress out through Brackenborough and Fulstow but pleasant enough passing by the fields, many of which still had their cereal crop to be harvested. The pea harvest was apparently two weeks ahead of schedule courtesy of the recent hot sunshine and the crop had already been sent off to the freezer, typically in Hull. Yields however significantly down on usual, figures of a 30 percent reduction being quoted by Louth farmers.

Arriving at the Golf Club at about 11 am there were a number of members practicing their putting skills and we hoped not to disturb them too much whilst we enjoyed refreshment. We did however engage in pleasant chat with those who had either just finished their round or were ready to start.

Rob needed to depart early as he had painting deadlines to meet back home whilst others were able to stay a while longer, although looking at the black clouds spreading from the west and threatening showers, a return for all of us soon beckoned.

The journey back via Tetney Lock, the West End and along the middle marsh lanes of Marshchapel Ings and Wragholme Ings afforded sightings of Little Egret and the occasional sound of a Buzzard’s "kee-yaa" call.

Everyone had arrived back at the the Leisure Centre by 1 pm where final hot and cold drinks were taken. About 30 miles for the Louth contingent, closer to 40 miles for John and 60 miles for Paul.
