Cycling UK Louth Wednesday Wander to the Seaview Colonnade Sutton-on-Sea 6th August 2025…Ride Report by John Rickett:
Meeting up at the Meridian Centre at 10.00 for the regular Wednesday Wander were just two members, Paul Linder and John Rickett.

Having seen last night's Look North report on the unpreparedness of the sea defences to protect the coastline in the coming years, the pair decided they had better visit Sutton-under-Sea before it did. What finer venue could there be on a warm and brilliantly sunny day than the newly opened Colonnade right on the sea front. At least the planners had got this right as it’s built on stilts with the main floor well above the height of the sea wall.

Having benefitted from a tail wind for the duration of the journey via Little Cawthorpe, Muckton, Alford and Markby, it was a short push of the bikes along the promenade to the ramp up to the Colonnade.

Although busy, there was one free table outside which was quickly bagged! The outside seating area provides an excellent view of the beach and with the holiday season in full swing, the beach and the sea were proving popular.

For future visits, be aware that the coffee is good but there's no cooked food, unless a panini or heated bagel is classed as cooked. There were plenty of cakes to choose from though so our intrepid duo didn't leave hungry.

The return trip as far as Alford was a reverse of the route. At this point Paul, who had already cycled to Louth from Alford, wended his way home with John opting for a direct route to Fotherby via Woodthorpe, Manby and Alvingham, arriving home just before 14.00 and with 47 miles covered.

A perfect day temperature wise for cycling so two lucky members made the most of it.
(Editor’s note: John informs us that there are cycle racks but they are on the promenade in front of the Colonnade, not at the other side of the ramp which would have been preferable).
