"Steady Saturday" Louth to Scamblesby 13th September 2025
Riding out today: Mark, Sue W., Becky, Des.,Sue C., Ty and special international guest rider Maja (from Germany.)
It's the second week of the Churches Festival Ride and Stride:

A cool but bright 9:00 am start saw the group heading out to Little Cawthorpe, where Des forded the Beck as we passed the Royal Oak (commonly known as The Splash), before continuing up through Haugham Reedings, over the London Road, and into Maidenwell. From there, we travelled along Oslear's Lane straight into Scamblesby.
Our first stop was St. Martin's Church for teas and coffees all round and a brief chat with Rev. Cilla. The group then negotiated 500 yards of the main Louth–Horncastle road before heading towards Asterby and Goulcby.
Des, Becky, and Sue had to head straight back to Louth for family commitments. Ty, Sue C., Mark, and Maja carried on to Goulcby All Saints Church—once Ty found the right road! (There are three triangular junctions in Goulcby—very confusing. Something akin to the Bermuda triangle.)
The group then said goodbye to Mark, who had to be home by 1:00 pm. Ty, Sue, and Maja made a stop at The Three Horseshoes for more coffee and croissants.

Then it was on to the big one: Red Hill, with its 10% gradient. We took a breather three-quarters of the way up to let a car pass, but other than that we made it to the top.

From there, it was over the Bluestone Heath road and downhill all the way to Raithby, then back up to Hallington and down into Louth. We opted for a walk through Hubbards’s Hills before heading home.
Ty, Sue, and Maja made it home by 2:00 pm. A beautiful, scenic (and hilly) 23-mile (37 km) ride today with dry and sunny weather conditions.
