Cycling UK Louth Ride Report Sunday 15th March 2020

Today’s destination: Oasis Cafe, North Somercotes.

Chris Owen, Mike Gray and John Ambler had all previously sent their apologies. Arriving at the Magna Vitae Meridian Leisure Centre were Jason Bartup, John Rickett, Alan Hockham, Rob Whitworth, Reg Bagshaw and Tim Newbery.

It was undoubtedly a wet and windy start to the day, with the prospect of outbreaks of rain persisting until about 1 pm. The promise of light winds and warm sunny weather tomorrow, Monday, persuaded all but John and Jason to decide to stop only for a chat and a coffee before heading home. So, it was left to Jason and John to show true spirit and brave the elements, thus saving the honour and reputation of the club.

The outbound route would have the intrepid riders heading ever north to Covenham St Mary and then eastwards along Low Gate to Eskham. Winds at this point assisting and the rain intermittent. Southbound now through Grainthorpe (Watts For Tea re-opening on 2nd April) and Conisholme and swift progress was made to Oasis Café where staff members were busy cleaning and disinfecting tables and surfaces.

The return route enforced a ride into a brisk wind but with the rain petering out made for an increasingly manageable and pleasant day out. Well done lads, 5 stars for perseverance.

There’ll be an ad hoc ride on Monday for those who are free, with the usual mid-week ride on Wednesday. On Sunday we are due to attend the ‘Cycle Jumble’ in Lincoln but please note that short notice alterations are possible due to circumstances beyond our control.
