Group of people riding

Cycling UK Louth’s Sunday Ride to North Thoresby 22nd March 2026

With the Spring Equinox heralding a new season (and hopefully some fine weather) we looked forward to a ride to North Thoresby Village Café for their monthly offering of drinks and hot and cold food.

Meeting up at Louth’s Leisure Centre were Tim Newbery, Harvey Wright, Paul Linder, John Rickett, Ty Harness, John Parish, Alan Hockham and a very welcome return to the flock for Martin Wood. It’s been a few months so great to see Martin again. Before departing we also met up with Charlie, who although wasn’t able to ride with us today, had indicated that he might join us on some future rides. It would be good to have you along Charlie.

The group now totalling eight departed on schedule at 10 am and we made our way through Brackenborough the Covenhams and Fulstow where not only did we encounter increasingly large groups of cyclists but also a number from Louth Tri Club who were taking part in their Fulstow 10K. Some were putting on a great pace! The weather at least was being kind to us all; dry and bright, little wind and a top temperature predicted to reach an above average 12 Degrees Celsius.

Arriving at North Thoresby Village Hall a little before 11 am, there was plenty of room for us to sit down and several large cafetières of coffee were delivered to our table. A mix of scones, bacon buns and a slice of cake for Harvey.

10 miles down and another 10 to our next refreshment stop, Appleby’s Ice Cream Parlour at Conisholme! Near the West End Tim was hoping to view Little Egret. Instead, a swan nesting by one of the many ditches through Marchchapel Ings. A Little Egret did fly off in front of us further along the route.

Following final refreshments that included a variety of home-made ice creams and pancakes, we would now head west back to Louth into a headwind which today was manageable.

Arrived back at the Leisure Centre a little after 1.30 pm, the Louth contingent having covered 32 miles. Many thanks to all and a great turnout.
