Louth to Wold Newton via Donington on Bain
Riders today, starting from the Meridian Leisure Centre: Alan (ride leader), Paul (who rode in from Alford), and Ty (from Louth).
Club Leader Tim met us at the Leisure Centre to wish the group bon voyage. We headed out of Louth towards Little Cawthorpe and Muckton, then used Dark Lane to reach Burwell. After crossing London Road, the group climbed up to Maidenwell and into Scamblesby via Rowgate Hill (an 11% descent).
Alas, there was no time to visit St. Martin’s Church today, as the group needed to meet the two Johns from Horncastle at Jenny’s Shop in Donington on Bain. We stopped for a quick coffee and a biscuit before proceeding to the Bluestone Heath via Welsdale Bottom Hill. This really is one hilly route!
The group rode along the Bluestone Heath to the Louth–Market Rasen road, then on to Kelstern. Here we said goodbye to Paul, who returned to Alford via North Elkington and Louth. Meanwhile, Ty, Alan, John W., and John S. continued on to Wold Newton, where they met Club Leader Tim again (he had driven in to see Wold Newton Church).
We all enjoyed some extremely delicious cake and coffee, along with a brief spell of sunshine. Ty and Alan then headed directly back to Louth via North Elkington, while John W. and John S. rode the Bluestone Heath road over to Belchford, then on through Fulletby and finally into Horncastle.
