Cycling UK Louth's Annual Lunch and Prizegiving 10th May 2025
CYCLISTS’ TOURING CLUB / CYCLING UK LOUTH. 10th May 2025:
Away with the chilly, cloudy weather of the last week and today we were to be blessed with wall to wall sunshine. Perfect for the meet up at The Café @ Mimi’s, Manby where many of the members had cycled in for our annual lunch and prizegiving.
Thanks to John Rickett, Paul Linder, Alan and Karen Hockham, John and Celia Ambler, Chris Owen, Martin Wood, Ty Harness and Tim Newbery for attending.
Cyclists’ Touring Club Louth dates back to about 1886, celebrating its Centenary in 1986 when Julie Kissane re-formed the club after a period of demise. John Ambler remains our longest serving member, having been on that inaugural ride on 8th June 1986. 39 YEARS and counting! We’ll have to organise a party for the 40th anniversary next year.
We first met up our newest Member Ty Harness, almost exactly one year ago on the Grimsby Blood Cancer UK Bikeathon. Memorable because of the fact that arriving at a particularly potholey, gravelly and sharp bend at Stainton-le-Vale, a rider had fallen heavily and needed medical attention. Ty was able to arrange for an ambulance, along with the help of one of the Charity’s patrolling motorcyclists. Glad to know that Ty’s recently been re-certified as a first-aider.
Not long afterwards, Ty joined Cycling UK and has hardly missed a ride with us ... in all weathers. He’s also been to the aid of a few of the group who have had mechanical issues - tool kit and puncture repair outfit always at the ready! Ty also volunteers as a mechanic for Active Lincolnshire’s ‘Wheels For Life’ bike donation scheme and Louth’s Repair Café.
Ty was presented with the club’s ‘EFFORT CUP’ which seems entirely appropriate. Many congratulations.
