Things to know before you book
A few practical notes to help you plan ahead and make the most of your week.
The rally is now based at Hurst View Campsite, which has proved to be an excellent and welcoming site, with great facilities and a relaxed atmosphere that suits the spirit of the week very well.
When booking your stay, please let the campsite know that you are with the Cycling Rally. This helps with planning and reminds reception staff to direct you to the rally field on arrival.
Electric hook-ups and charging
Electric hook-ups on the rally field are limited and relatively expensive, so they are not generally available for individual use. Instead, the rally provides a shared electric hook-up point for everyone to use. This can be used for charging devices, kettles and other small essential needs.
Ice packs and food storage
There is free and efficient ice pack freezing available at reception. This is a simple but very popular facility, helping campers keep food fresh throughout the week.
Subs and rally support
The rally is supported by a small subscription of £1 per adult per night. This helps keep funds topped up and contributes to shared costs, including the barn dance and children’s prizes. We ask everyone to complete a short attendance form to help us monitor numbers and ensure the week goes as smoothly as possible, from one year to the next. This can be accessed here and we will make paper copies available during the week, should you find that more convenient.
Getting the most from the week
As highlighted in Morgan’s tips, the rally works best when kept simple and flexible. Rides and activities are informal and volunteer-led, and everyone is encouraged to join in at their own pace. It is very much about shared effort, good humour, and making the week work together rather than a rigid programme.
For more detailed guidance and background, see Morgan’s full tips here, bearing in mind that we were still at Avon Tyrell when these were written.
