Report on the 2022 Great Selby Bike Ride

Group of people riding
A thoroughly enjoyable event according to our riders, our marshalls and our concessions who have all said they want to do it again next year.

The final piece of the jigsaw fell into place with warm weather providing a comfortable day for cycling our two routes (25 miles or 45 miles). The routes were fully signed and had marshalls in place at each junction or turn. There was a drink stop on each route and travelling first aid provision in place (fortunately not needed). The start/finish at Barlby High School proved to be an ideal venue for riders who had travelled from further afield with ample parking. Before and after the ride Jorvik Grill offered their extensive menu, while an added bonus from lunchtime was Livvy's traditional ice cream van. Riders stayed around for lunch and a chat after their ride with the event finaly wrapping up at about 3:30pm.

Elmet Lions are certainly planning to run the event again in 2023 and hope to attract increasing numbers of riders for future events and to extend facilities at Barlby School to provide entertainment and attractions on site.

We will be announcing how much we have raised for our four charities as soon as the formalitties are completed - Martin House, St Leonard's Hospice, the British Heart Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Care.
