New Forest Cycling Week

New Forest Cycling Week is a long-established, friendly cycle camping gathering in the New Forest, founded in 1975 by Peter Knottley in association with Cycling UK. Its aim is simple: a relaxed week of cycling where everyone rides at their own pace, whether that’s gentle touring, short local rides, or simply enjoying time outdoors.

A relaxed and welcoming rally

Held each year in the last week of July, the week is an informal, volunteer-run gathering for cycle campers. It welcomes families, small groups and individuals alike, whether new to camping or highly experienced. There is no pressure and no over-organisation, just a supportive environment where you can take part as much or as little as you like.

Built by volunteers

New Forest Cycling Week has always been sustained by its volunteers. Among them, Geoff Clark is especially fondly remembered for his many years of dedication, encouragement, and quiet organisation. His warmth and humour helped shape the welcoming spirit that still defines the week today.

A week that spans generations

Families who first attended in the 1970s now return with children and grandchildren. That continuity is part of what makes the week special, with a shared rhythm of rides, meals, and evenings spent among friends.

Looking ahead

While attendance today is smaller than at its peak, the aim remains to welcome new riders and gently grow the event, ensuring this unique “holiday on wheels” continues to thrive.

At its heart, New Forest Cycling Week remains what it has always been: a friendly celebration of cycling, community, and the enduring appeal of the New Forest.
