Hub & Spoke Harlow CIC Community Cycling Club
Hub & Spoke Harlow is a Cycling UK affiliated Group in Harlow, Essex. We are a Community Interest Company (CIC) with a mission to support and advocate cycling as the standard mode of personal transport in and around Harlow for sustainability, recreation, social engagement, mental and physical health. We are an all-volunteer organisation and work in collaboration with other local cycling groups. We provide Dr. Bike sessions, participate in community events, campaign for maintenance and improvements to the town's 32 miles of long-neglected cycleways, conduct "learn to ride" sessions for all ages, recycle donated bikes into the community, maintain a fleet of rental bikes, organise the annual "Big Harlow Bike Ride" in conjunction with Bike Week and operate our Saturday led rides. Our led rides are designed to accommodate riders of any ability; groups will decide on destinations, routes and pace based on who shows up on the day and weather. Harlow is the UK's "Sculpture Town", with over 100 pieces of public art installed, most easily accessible from the cycleways. Harlow Council publishes a map guide to the artworks specifically for cycling and we have a ride leader who takes out a regular "Sculpture Ride".
Our regular led group rides meet at Harlow Museum on Saturday mornings between 10:00 - 10:30. There are typically three rides, with destinations, pace and distance to meet the preferences and abilities of the riders present. The rides are community events, open to all, and with a strong social aspect. Our "Sculpture Ride" is very popular - Harlow being "The Sculpture Town" - with those wanting a gentle pace mostly on cycleways.
Every ride is risk assessed and details forwarded via email on Fridays.
In the pandemic we follow UK government and Cycling UK guidance. From January 2021 we are not operating led rides until guidance changes to allow resumption. We are encouraging solo rides and publishing our weekly Newsletter. Sign up via firstname.lastname@example.org
