Williamson’s Garden Center, Uphall

Group ride

Event description

This Sunday’s ride is to Uphall for lunch at Williamsons Garden Centre and Coffee Shop.

We shall meet at Redhall Park at 9.50 am for a 10 am departure.

Our route takes the canal path as far as Ratho and then onto B7030 down to Wilkieston and using a cycle track we join the B7015 to East Calder. Then onto Pumpherston Road which could take us straight to Uphall but to work up an appetite we will take a short diversion around Livingston on well surfaced cycle paths to re-join Pumpherston Road and then to our lunch stop at Williamsons (19 miles).

I have reserved a table and will confirm numbers in the morning, the cafe has an extensive menu with limited vegan options.

After lunch it is a very straightforward route home via the canal path until Niddry, then Winchburgh, Beatie Road, Bullyeon Road a path thru Dundas Castle before joining Standingstone Road ,Burnshot Road and back to Crammond Brig (33 miles) where the ride ends altho the strava route directs you back to Roseburn , I can accompany anyone unfamiliar with this route back to Rose

We will be on tarmac or hard surfaces for almost all of this ride but take great care where there might be patches of wet leaves, moss or ice making the surface slippery.

The weather on Sunday is at present forecast to be fine but chilly with a WSW wind gusty at times so wrap up warm.

Everyone is very welcome to attend but for riders new to the group, our riding guidelines on the following link are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders.  https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding   You will be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.

Do take note of my phone number in case you get separated from the group. 07855452415 and for new riders, I will collect your details prior to the ride.  If you intend to be a regular rider with us please email icectc.lb@gmail.com with your contact details and a contact number in case of emergency, so that we will have your details available.

Please make sure your bike is roadworthy and that you have 2 spare inner tubes and basic tools to change an inner tube.  Do take note of the weather and dress accordingly! You will need to have water,  money for the lunch stop and a bike lock.  Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help out as best as possible with punctures and mechanical problems, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
