West Lothian loop to Mannerstons Cafe for lunch
The ride on the 14th is a 65 K (41-mile) loop in West Lothian stopping at Mannerston Café near Linlithgow for lunch.
Please meet at Slateford Viaduct at 9:45am for a prompt 10am start.
We will follow the Canal to Riccarton where we can have a quick comfort break.
From there we will head along the old Damahoy road to Kirknewton and then bypass east Calder and head through the Almondell Country Park. We will then proceed through Broxburn, turning West we climb past Oatridge Golf course, before heading North (and mostly downhill) towards Philipstoun. We will then take a small detour to Mannerston Café for lunch. 40K (25 miles). We will then re-trace our steps back to Philipston and then make our way to Queensferry, and then back to Cramond, and finally Roseburn where the cycle will end. The forecast currently is: dry, light cloud and a moderate Easterly breeze.
The route is on good surfaced cycle track, or minor roads with the exception of one section at East Calder which is slightly rougher. It should be suitable for most bikes, but there is an easy detour for anyone with a delicate roadie. GPX can be downloaded from following Strava link or using attached GPX file.
Riding in a group requires consideration for others in the group. Our riding guidelines are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders. https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding
At any turns, make sure the person behind sees you. Please take note of my phone number 07964 988 597 in case you get separated from the group. Please ensure your bike is roadworthy, and that you carry 2 spare inner tubes and tools.
In accordance with good riding practice you should carry emergency contact details both on your person (card in wallet/purse, ICE on mobile) and in your bike bag.
While experienced group members will always give assistance and advice to other riders ultimately you are responsible for yourself and making your own way home.
An attendance sheet will be completed on the morning. The ride is primarily for Cycling UK members. However non-members are welcome to attend, but would be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
