Please join Stephen Bennett and Rob Goodall from built-environment consultancy Arup to discuss their perspectives and experience of working with local authorities and elected members on the planning, design, and delivery of active travel (walking, wheeling and cycling) schemes across the UK.

Whilst there are standard processes, procedures and pathways with multiple avenues for securing funding and despite a significant uplift in overall capital funding for active travel, progress on delivery of infrastructure schemes for walking and cycling has not as matched expectations.

Stephen and Rob will share some insights of working directly with private sector developers and local, regional and national government on these types of projects. They will discuss their approach to engagement with communities and elected members and offer thoughts on why schemes and proposals change through their lifecycle due to the complex intersection of priorities, vision and funding constraints. They will attempt to provide some recommendations on the best way to influence and contribute to lead to successful outcomes.
