Usk Ramble

40 mile moderate ride along undulating lanes. (52 if you cycle back from Newport)

Bring food and drink as the plan is to picnic in the woods and we probably won’t be going into any cafes.

There are a number of trains from Cardiff that will get you to Newport on time. We’ll be meeting by the car park entrance to Newport Train Station from 10 am to set off at 10.15.

This lovely ride from Jack Thurston's book takes us through Caerleon to Usk, for a quick snack stop in the town square.

We then head up Clytha Hill to an ancient Hill Fort and bluebell wood where we can eat our lunch. Down the hill and we retrace our steps through Usk but then take the lumpier lane back to Caerleon.

Trains are regular from Newport to Cardiff or you can join a ride back.
