Event description

We meet at 9.50 am for a 10 am departure from Fisherrow Harbour Musselburgh and we will go to Soutra Coffee House ,Fala (our lunch stop)   returning to Fisherrow 38 miles in total.

We shall leave Musselburgh using the local CR 76 through Stoneybank which connects with NCR 1 to Whitecraig passing Smeaton Farm. Then we continue onto Cousland  and join the A 6093 briefly before taking a R turn onto the  B 6367 and a  road to Fala Dam and Fala Village. Our route will avoid  the A68 to reach our lunchtime destination at Soutra (17 miles).

I have reserved a table but will need to confirm numbers in the morning . They offer a delicious selection of sandwiches, soup ,coffee and cakes with some limited vegan options.

With most of the hills completed in the morning after lunch we head back via Humbie, Gilchriston ,East Saltoun and Pencaitland before joining the A199 thru Macmerry and Tranent.

One last pull over F’side before dropping down into Inveresk and back to the start at Fisherrow 38miles. The route is provided here.

This route is on roads or tarmac cycle path but there may be a covering of wet leaves in places and mud from farm machinery, which might make the surface slippery so do take care. The weather at present looks chilly with light rain and a gentle breeze.

Everyone is very welcome to attend but for riders new to the group, our riding guidelines on the following link are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders.  https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding   You will be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.

Do take note of my phone number in case you get separated from the group. 07855452415 and for new riders, I will collect your details prior to the ride.  If you intend to be a regular rider with us please email icectc.lb@gmail.com with your contact details and a contact number in case of emergency, so that we will have your details available.

Please make sure your bike is roadworthy and that you have 2 spare inner tubes and basic tools to change an inner tube.  Do take note of the weather and dress accordingly! You will need to have water, packed lunch  or money for lunch  and a bike lock.  Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help out as best as possible with punctures and mechanical problems, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home.

See you Sunday.
