About this event

A route designed by Ted Liddle...

Starting 5 mile south of Hexham at Whitley Chapel, this Day Ride Event is organised by Tyne Valley MTB to raise funds for new routes and facilities in the north-east with a donation to the Alpkit Foundation. Open to riders with sufficient stamina and experience to ride 44 km across open moorland using a mix of single and double tracks, this excellent route will take you places you didn't know existed! Part of the entry fee pays for the village hall at the start / end - please regard the remaining sum as a donation towards new cycle routes and facilities otherwise unfunded which will benefit you in the future. Given a good attendance, the Alpkit Foundation will also benefit. IMPORTANT: No individuals will profit personally from this Event which we know you will MUCH enjoy.

Following the hugely successful 2020 Alpkit rides model, the ride is self-guided and not waymarked. You will be provided a GPX file or if required a simple map. Following a brief briefing, you will set off to ride this superb route and enjoy two glorious traverses of the North Pennine moors to an amazing destination. Start times will be allocated to riders from 09:00 to fit with Covid protocols which must be followed. The route GPX and more detailed instructions will be emailed to participants three days before the Event. Tyne Valley MTB is following Cycling UK Guidance on Covid-19 compliance and best practice for events Detailed information here

MTB, E-MTB or skillfully-ridden gravel bikes are suitable. Some sections of singletrack on the route will prove challenging for gravel riders and you should have previous experience of riding this type of terrain. You need to be self sufficient, provide a suitable bike in good working condition and have experience of riding across open moorland albeit on tracks. Come prepared to be challenged whatever the conditions. Volunteers from Tyne Valley MTB will provide a limited amount of support and even lead a group - advance bookings only. NOTE: A limited recovery service will be available for genuine emergencies.
