Ride From Proper Cycling & Coffee to a view of Devil's Dyke, lunch at Warninglid
Event description
On Sunday 7th June 2026, we're leaving promptly at 10.30 am from the Proper Cycling and Coffee café at 26 Keymer Rd, Hassocks BN6 8AN, so please get to the café early if you want to have a cup of coffee before leaving!
The Ride Leader says: "We will head up to Hickstead via the delightful Pookbourne Lane. From Hickstead we will continue into the High Weald climbing steeply into Warninglid where we will have lunch outside the Half Moon pub. There is a grassy area for those of us bringing sandwiches. I will aim to get us there by 12.30. After our lunch (around 1.30) we will head south to Woodmancote and Fulking, before turning east to Poynings and beginning the climb up the Downs to Devil's Dyke. There is another café at the top of the Dyke if you fancy a cup of coffee, and participants can then either make their own way back to Brighton or Hove, or return with me to Hassocks."
"The ride is 34 miles, entirely on roads. Most are very quiet, but we will cross the dual carriage way at Hickstead using the roundabout. After the recent weather we can expect roads to be mucky, so mudguards are advisable. The hills are steep so make sure your brakes and gears work. There is village shop so please bring a packed lunch or eat at the pub. I will book on Saturday if participants let me know they want to eat at the pub."
