Polkemmet Country Park

Club Ride

On Wednesday, you have a choice! I am leading a ride to Polkemmet but Gordon will be doing a shorter ride with a café stop at Veitch’s in East Calder.

We all meet at Redhall Park 9.50 am for 10 am departure. We will head out to Livingston via Heriot Watt (toilet stop), Kirknewton, and East Calder. At Livingston Village we will part company and Gordon will head back via the Waverley Path to Dedridge, then East Calder for potential coffee stop (19 miles), Clifton Road, Ratho and finish at Hermiston Gate. (27 miles). Depending on numbers he might be able to book table(s) at Veitch’s Garden centre café.

Those continuing to Polkemmet will follow the pleasant NCN Route 75 through Bathgate to Harthill and Polkemmet for a late lunch. (another 15 miles-29 in total). There is a café and toilets and out-door tables but mindful of the current regulations, we should disperse in small groups for our picnic. After lunch we have a short climb to Longride then a lovely descent to the outskirts of Livingston, where we will follow the same route via Waverley Path, East Calder, Ratho and finish at Hermiston Gate. (52 Miles total) The pace will be moderate as we are riding on a cycle paths for some of the time although they are all hard surfaces.

TEXT me on 07974113737 by Tuesday evening if you are coming along. Limit is 15 riders. Also note the instructions below on Covid regulations.
Please also read our riding guidelines https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding for your safety and the safety of others in the group.
We will ride as usual in small groups of around 5 and please avoid bunching up at junctions. You should bring 2 spare inner tubes, tools to change an inner, and a pump. Also, water, snacks to keep you going, a picnic lunch, something to sit on wet grass and a bike lock.
Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help as best as possible, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home.
You should already have emailed me, ironside@blueyonder.co.uk to confirm you have read the Covid-19 regulations below otherwise you will not be allowed to ride.
Please note that by attending a ride:
• You are self-certifying that you are well and not required to isolate or quarantine.
• You agree to maintain social distancing when not cycling. Whilst we are not required by Scottish Cycling to socially distance when riding, we would encourage you to do so.
• You agree not to share food or drink
• You will carry a mask and hand sanitiser in case of untoward events, such as mechanicals or accidents.
• You agree to follow NHS guidelines if you become unwell after the ride.

We are looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
