North York Moors Grimpeur 200km Audax
Event description
If you like hills this is the ride for you! It is a scenic ride through the North York Moors National Park, with lots of steep hills to conquer.
You will have a fairly easy start through the Howardian Hills before the first control at Helmsley. Then you head over the moors to Osmotherley. After a relatively gentle section you head into the hills again to the mid-point control at the Yorkshire Cycle Hub at Fryup. Then you have some more big climbs with views to the sea around Whitby, where you will almost reach the coast, before heading back up into the Moors with more steep climbs around Grosmont, crossing open moors with amazing views before descending to Pickering and a fairly easy ride back through Malton to Stamford Bridge.
I am also organising an alternative, less hilly, 200k ride on the same day. If you do not like hills, please do not enter this one, especially if you will complain about the hills afterwards!! Instead please enter the Yorkshire Wolds and Coast 200.
There is no catering provided, but the bar will be open at the Old Station Club at the finish, with hot and cold drinks available. There is also food available until 8pm, for those who manage to finish by then. You will also be able to see the tapestry to the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066, which is located in the club.
