Muiravonside

Group ride

Event description

Sunday’s ride is a jaunt out west to a well serviced Country Park located in Falkirk Region.

We will leave the Roseburn Path meeting point ( where it crosses the main Glasgow road from Haymarket) at 9..50 am for a 10 am departure. We will head west via Kirkliston, where there will be a toilet stop, Winchburgh and Faucheldean using as many minor roads as possible. We will continue past Ochlitree Farm until eventually we will join the canal path as it winds through Linlithgow.

Lunch will be at around 20 miles in Muiravonside Country Park. There is a small cafe there selling filled rolls , hot drinks and soup...... but the service is limited and sometimes slow as it is provided by Falkirk District Council. There are good picnic benches where you can eat your own sandwiches in a pretty courtyard with toilets.

The return leg will take us through Linlithgow, past the Loch then a climb to the Ridge separating Linlithgow from Bo’ness.

Thereafter we drop towards the Forth coastline to Blackness, Hopetoun and South Queensferry, where we can pick up the cycle path from Dalmeny to Barnton. (parallel to the A90)

At this point the ride will end, although I am happy to lead anyone back to the starting point if they require any assistance.

Total mileage is around 40 miles

Terrain is reasonably well surfaced tarmac roads except for Hopetoun Estate

There are no particularly challenging hills

A register will be taken at the start where you will be asked for ICE contacts should we not have this information.

The strava route will be posted below

Riding in a group requires consideration for others in the group. Our riding guidelines are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders.  https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding

At any turns, make sure the person behind sees you.  Please take note of my phone number 07825717756 in case you get separated from the group.  Please ensure your bike is roadworthy, and that you carry 2 spare inner tubes and tools.  Remember to bring water, money for lunch and a bike lock. In accordance with good riding practice you should carry emergency contact details both on your person (card in wallet/purse, ICE on mobile) and in your bike bag.

While experienced group members will always give assistance and advice to other riders ultimately you are responsible for yourself and making your own way home.  However, no-one should be left in a situation of not knowing how to get home. An attendance sheet will be completed on the morning.  The ride is primarily for Cycling UK members.  Non-members are welcome to attend but would be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.
