Livingston Klondyke GS

Group ride

Event description

15/02/20

Do be aware that the weather forecast for tomorrow is still for very strong winds with gusts up to 50 mph.  I will be at the start 9.50 am at Redhall Car Park and if you do come along, we may well do something shorter that involves cake.

****************************************************************************************************************************************************

This Sunday's ride is an easy paced ride to the Topiary Cafe in the Klondyke Garden Centre in Livingston, where I have reserved a table.  This ride is only 33 miles and can be shortened by getting the train back from Livingston (we pass the station at 16 miles), so ideal for those who have not ventured out yet in 2020!

Meet in Redhall Park car park at 9.50 am for a prompt departure at 10 am.  We will head along the canal to start but soon take up roads north towards Ratho and Wilkieston before riding through the Almondvale park where we will have a brief comfort stop.  Then it's back onto roads to Uphall, then skirting north Livingston on the railway path.  We will then head south via Livingston Village to the Topiary cafe. (19 miles).  After lunch we will follow route 75 eastwards towards East Calder, Kirknewton and then descending along the Long Dalmahoy road to Heriot Watt and back onto the canal.  Total back to start is 33 miles.

This route is entirely on roads or tarmac cycle paths but there may be a covering of debris/mud in places which might make the surface slippery, so do take care.

The weather at present looks fair but with a strong and cold westerly wind.  If conditions deteriorate, expect an early coffee stop!

Everyone is very welcome to attend but for riders new to the group, our riding guidelines on the following link are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders.  https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding   You will be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.

Do take note of my phone number in case you get separated from the group. 07974113737 and for new riders, I will collect your details prior to the ride.  If you intend to be a regular rider with us please email icectc.lb@gmail.com with your contact details and a contact number in case of emergency, so that we will have your details available.

Please make sure your bike is roadworthy and that you have 2 spare inner tubes and basic tools to change an inner tube.  Do take note of the weather and dress accordingly! You will need to have water, money for lunch stop and a bike lock.  Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help out as best as possible with punctures and mechanical problems, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home.

See you Sunday!

Janet
