Haddington

Dear All,

The destination for the ride on Sunday 14/7 is Haddington and is 46 miles in total.

We will meet at Fisherrow Harbour at 9.50 a.m. for a 10.00 am start.

We follow cycle route 1 along River Esk, Whitecraig and on to Crossgates. From there we cycle to Elphinstone, Pencaintland, Samuelston and Haddington for lunch (19 miles). There are a number of cafes in Haddington as well as picnic spots along the River Tyne Walkway. I have contacted the Grain café who will set aside an area if we need it.

After lunch we will assemble outside(!) the Plough Tavern on Court Street.

From there we cycle to Hailes Castle, East Linton and down to Preston Mill for a wee visit. Then its back to Fisherrow via Athelstaneford, St Germains, and Port Seton. (27 miles).

The current forecast is dry, 17C with light winds.

The route is on tarmac and good cycle tracks.

You will need to bring drink and snacks to keep you going and money for lunch.

Please ensure your bike is roadworthy, and that you carry 2 spare inner tubes and tools.

Please ride in groups of around 4-6, on busier roads, with adequate gaps between to allow traffic to safely slot in after overtaking. 

In accordance with good riding practice https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding you should carry emergency contact details both on your person (card in wallet/purse, ICE on mobile) and in your bike bag.

While experienced group members will always give assistance and advice to other riders ultimately you are responsible for yourself and making your own way home.  Hopefully no-one would be left in a situation of not knowing how to get home.

An attendance sheet will be completed on the morning.  The ride is primarily for Cycling UK members.  However, non-members are welcome to attend, but would be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.
