Haddington

Event ride

Event description

Hello All,

The ride on 21st of April is 43 miles stopping at Haddington for lunch.
Please meet at Fisherrow Harbour, Mussleburgh at 09.50 for a 10 a.m. start.
We will make our way along the front to Port Seton where we can take the
opportunity of a comfort stop. We then make our way up to St. Germains and over the
level crossing.

Next it’s the well-worn path to Bangly Hill and on to Athelstaneford where we pick up the B1343 sweeping round to the B1377 which will bring us into East Linton. We then cross the main road and continue past Hailes Castle and follow the road to Haddington for lunch (26 miles). Diggory’s have reserved a room for us and they do a range of lunch options.

After lunch we make our way out of Haddington over the Tyne picking up the NCR196 passing Samuelston and up to Saltoun farm. The B6355 will take us on to Pencaitland and then on past New Winton. Then we follow the B6414 through to Elphinstone enjoying a long down hill section to the traffic lights at Crossgatehall. We continue down the hill past Carberry Tower, over the roundabout and on to Inveresk, ending up back in Musselburgh and on to Fisherrow.

Riding in a group requires consideration for others in the group. Our riding guidelines are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders. https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding

At any turns, make sure the person behind sees you. Please take note of my phone number 07792278468 in case you get separated from the group.

Please ensure your bike is roadworthy, and that you carry 2 spare inner tubes and tools.

In accordance with good riding practice you should carry emergency contact details both on your person (card in wallet/purse, ICE on mobile) and in your bike bag.

While experienced group members will always give assistance and advice to other riders ultimately you are responsible for yourself and making your own way home. Hopefully no-one would be left in a situation of not knowing how to get home.

An attendance sheet will be completed on the morning. The ride is primarily for Cycling UK members. However non-members are welcome to attend, but would be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday,

Regards

Heather
