Event description

Our challenging Guy Barber 100 mile Memorial Charity Ride, now in its 19th year, will take place on Sunday 6th July, and will be to Oxford this year.

Guy Barber was a member of CTC Northampton,  and he rode charity events using either a butcher’s bike or an Ordinary (penny farthing). Using his road bike he had two favourite rides from Northampton, one to Cambridge and one to Oxford.  On one occasion, he rode both routes on the same day!

We have 3 possible routes, with 2 starting points, Northampton and Buckingham, giving two rides of 100 or 56 miles, both meeting up at Oxford for lunch. We also have a shorter ride of 34 miles from Buckingham to Hogshaw for coffee and back. Please note that this option is likely to be self led, depending on riders registering, therefore please ensure that you have a map of the route with you.

We request a £5 donation collected on the day, which will be donated to the British Heart Foundation.

To enable everyone to lunch close to each other in Oxford we have two start points.

The long ride (100mls) will meet at 8.00am, and start at 8.15am from the Library in East Hunsbury, Northampton.

The other two routes, 56mls and 34mls, meet at 10.00am and start at 10.15am from the Market place, Buckingham, after joining the group from Northampton.  From here all 3 groups will ride on to the first coffee stop at the Green Dragon Eco Farm café, Claydon Rd,Hogshaw, MK18 3LA.

Lunch is in Oxford at a choice of eating places in the area around the intersection of London Road and Windmill Road.  The Adria Pizzeria on Windmill Road is very suitable, not too busy and with cycle parking outside.  But there are many other options in this area.

From the outskirts of the city there are good cycle paths into the centre, some separated from the main road. Most of the route is on fairly quiet country roads and is undulating rather than hilly. See the routes on the RidewithGPS links below.
