Dysart Harbour
Event description
The ride starts at 10 am sharp from Roseburn Path where it crosses the A8 Glasgow Road.
We follow the path in the usual manner and make our way to the Forth Road Bridge via the A90 Path, Dalmeny village and the Scotstoun Estate in South Queensferry.
This Sunday the Pedal for Scotland Event between Edinburgh and Glasgow is on so we will steer clear of routes which this event will use.
We cross the Forth Road Bridge on the west side and make our way to Inverkeithing, stopping at the toilets at the Bus Station en route. From Inverkeithing we use take the B road to Crossgates which involves a long, but manageable, climb.
We are then rewarded by fine views as the road undulates east along quieter roads to Auchtertool until finally we reach the outskirts of Kirkcaldy. The easiest way to traverse Kirkcaldy is to head for the Promenade and follow the coast eastwards until we reach the pretty little harbour of Dysart.
We have a choice of eating in the splendid cafe or dining al fresco... weather and picnic permitting.
The return leg involves a climb up to the fabulous Binn Road where quiet farm roads run parallel to the coast in the upland area behind Kinghorn and Burntisland. There is a choice of coming off the Binn Hill by an off road or on road route.... you can decide!
Thereafter we follow the coastal Sustrans route via Burntisland, Aberdour
and Dalgety Bay.
For the final leg to Cramond Brig from the Bridge we have to retrace our steps as the Pedal for Scotland Route is using routes in and around Kirkliston....limiting our choice to the A90 once more.
