Culross

Group ride

Event description

Dear All,

The ride this Sunday is to the village of Culross in Fife.

We shall meet on the Roseburn bridge where it crosses the Glasgow Road at 9.50 am for a 10 am start.

The ride is 44 miles in total back to Roseburn

We take the NCR 1 out as far as Crammond taking the diversion to Kirliston and up  Standingstone Road to rejoin NCR 1 at Dalmeny and over the bridge. We shall take a  short comfort break at the Ferrytoll park and ride then onto the  NCR 76 to Rosyth . At Limekilns we take a scenic route thru Boomhall Estate  rejoining the A985 at Charleston  onto Culross following NCR 76.

Total to lunch 22 miles.

There are a number of cafes in Culross and plenty of places to sit and have your own picnic or grab a coffee ,it is not possible to reserve a table in a cafe so if the weather is poor there is always The Red Lion Pub.

After lunch we retrace our steps to Torryburn   then Cairneyhill and Crossfords where we take a R  down Waggon Road. Then its back to Rosyth and over the bridge and route 1 back to the start.

44 miles in total

The route is on tarmac and good cycle tracks, part of the track through Broomhall Estate is stony so maybe not suitable for very skinny tyres.

The forecast at present is for Sunny Intervals and a moderate breeze.

You will need to bring drink and snacks to keep you going and money for lunch.

Please ensure your bike is roadworthy, and that you carry 2 spare inner tubes and tools.

Please ride in groups of around 4-6, on busier roads, with adequate gaps between to allow traffic to safely slot in after overtaking.

In accordance with good riding practice https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding you should carry emergency contact details both on your person (card in wallet/purse, ICE on mobile) and in your bike bag.

While experienced group members will always give assistance and advice to other riders ultimately you are responsible for yourself and making your own way home.  Hopefully no-one would be left in a situation of not knowing how to get home.

An attendance sheet will be completed on the morning.  The ride is primarily for Cycling UK members.  However, non-members are welcome to attend, but would be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.

Please take a note of my phone number 07855452415 in case you get separated from the group

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday

All the best

Cathy
