C&NW CTC and Ruthin Cycling Club Bike Packing evening talks

27 October 2026
Local Group Event

Event description

C&NW CTC and Ruthin Cycling Club are jointly organising an evening of bike packing talks. We are delighted that two very highly regarded speakers:

Mike Raine Mike is a writer, outdoor educator and bikepacker based in Eryri/Snowdonia. He has written four books, including two on bikepacking: Just One More Hill: A Bikepacker’s Tales from the Trails and End to End: Lizard Point to Cape Wrath — An Off-Road Bikepacking Journey.

He will speak about his bike packing books and will discuss how the term bikepacking now is used by road based cycle tourers and has also become associated with gravel biking. He will be emphasising you can do any route you want, but it might take you a bit longer than the racers (and it’s OK to book a hotel every now and then). He will emphasise how accessible and rewarding travelling by bike, especially on traffic free routes is. The talk will be illustrated with some readings from his books and illustrations.

There will be an opportunity to purchase signed copies of his books at the end of the evening.

Ross Adams Ross is the programme manager for routes and training for Cycling UK. In recent years as collection of long distance routes has been drawn up; not only have the routes been carefully planned and researched, access has been negotiated and detailed guides drawn up. https://www.cyclinguk.org/routes/long-distance Ross will be explaining how the routes are created, with some videos to illustrate the talk.
