Bo'ness

Group ride

Event description

Sunday’s ride is a 40-mile clockwise route to Bo’ness for lunch in the Belgica Café which is in the Belgica furniture store.  I have reserved a table.  They do soup, snacks, full meals and cakes and they have some vegan/GF options.

The weather on Sunday is fairish but cold and there will be a wind chill, so have spare layers! Also, it’s worth checking your emails or website last minute in case the weather deteriorates and I have to make some changes to the route.

We meet at 9.50 am on the cycle path at Roseburn bridge where it crosses the main Corstorphine road.  We will take our usual route to Cramond Brig then Kirkliston and Niddry (alfresco toilet stop possible) to join the canal path which will take us to Philpstoun. Then we will head north to take the Borrowstoun road.  This is blocked off further on, but we will take a left and right turn and head up along past the golf course.  This is a stiff climb followed by open views and a long lovely descent to lunch (22 miles). After lunch we will have a short stretch on the main road before heading to the John Muir way along the coast back to Blackness.  We will take the road now and head home via Mannerston holdings, Bullyeon Road, Dundas Estate and Dalmeny.  The ride will finish at Miller and Carter. (40.8 miles). It’s another 4 miles back to Roseburn.

This ride is almost all on tarmac or hard surfaces, although there is a short stretch on perfectly manageable track on the John Muir Way.

Everyone is very welcome to attend but for riders new to the group, our riding guidelines on the following link are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders.  https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding   You will be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.

Do take note of my phone number in case you get separated from the group. 07974113737 and for new riders, I will collect your details prior to the ride.  If you intend to be a regular rider with us please email [email protected] with your contact details and a contact number in case of emergency, so that we will have your details available..

Please make sure your bike is roadworthy and that you have 2 spare inner tubes and basic tools to change an inner tube.  Please dress for the weather. You will need to have water, lunch money, a bike lock and lights.  Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help out as best as possible with punctures and mechanical problems, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home.

See you Sunday

Janet
