The Betjeman Ride 2025
Event description
In partnership with Wantage Town Council and the Trustees of the Betjeman Millennium Park in Wantage, this is a gentle beginners ride from the Park to Uffington, where John Betjeman lived during the 1930's. The ride is particularly suitable to invite friends and family to try out.
We leave the Park and cut across to Grove, then cycle through Denchworth, Goosey and Baulking to Uffington, where we will stop at historic St Mary's church in Uffington (the cathedral of the Vale) for drinks and delicious cakes or cream teas. The average speed will be a very leisurely 10mph and the route is largely flat with only a few gentle ups and downs.
There are two options:
- 10 mile ride to Uffington Church for drinks and cakes. Get yourself collected from there.
- 20 mile ride to Uffington Church for drinks and cakes and then back to Wantage.
NB: in previous years we have found that the majority of riders manage the 20 mile route fine even if they have not done a long ride before.
Children (10+ riding solo) are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The event is free, but please bring money or card for refreshments and do carry a drink with you.
Please contact John Tranter to register your interest and to help us gauge numbers for refreshments at Uffington.
