Belles Big Ride 2019 - Cumbrae
Cycling UK and Cycle Ayrshire have organised the Belles Big Ride as a Women's Festival of Cycling event.
The Belles Big Ride is a social ride for women, which is all about making cycling fun.
It's not a sportive, so it's not about winning. It's about inspiring and encouraging each other to ride and have a great day out together on the beautiful Isle of Cumbrae. There will be a Dr Bike supporting the event.
Start: 9.30am – 3.00pm Finish: 4.30pm
Distance: 10 – 60 miles (or 100km) comprising 10-mile circuits of the island
Free but ticketed
Cycling just for women! Cycle Ayrshire ladies invite women of all ages and abilities to join a relaxed bike challenge where you choose your own goal. It may be completing your first 10 miles, going for a 100km (6 laps) or anything in between. We chose the Isle of Cumbrae as it is flat, route finding is simple (keep the sea to one side), toilets and cafes are easy to find and if there are mechanical problems our team can speed to your assistance. It’s noted as a cycle friendly destination with fine views of the Firth of Clyde and is easily reached by ferry from Largs. The ferry runs every 15 minutes, takes 10 minutes and a return ticket costs £3.40.
You can register and set off any time after 9.30am, ride as part of a led or informal group or go solo.
You’ll have a card to record completed circuits and when you finish, we’ll give you a personalised certificate. The event base offers free coffee and biscuits, space to chat, Dr Bike checks, BikeRegister security listing (11.00am-2.00pm) and an electric bike display with funding information (11.30am-2.30pm)
Open to 50 women from beginners to proficient riders. Bring your own bike, arrange to hire one on the island or access Abellio Bike & Go at Largs Railway Station.
