Beecraigs Country Park

Hi Sunday Cyclists

Sunday’s is a nice, simple route to Beecraigs Country Park where we can have our picnic lunch on outside tables or the visitor centre café.

We will meet a Slateford Viaduct opposite the Water of Leith visitor centre at 9.50 am for a 10 am departure.  At first we will head along the canal, then up through Heriot Watt for a toilet stop.  From there we will head to Kirknewton, East Calder, Pumpherston and Dechmont.  A final push up to Beecraigs country park will take us to our lunch stop at 23 miles.

Happily, its downhill after lunch, to Linlithgow and the canal to Philipstoun then Bullyeon Road, Dundas Estate and Kirkliston.

Then a final push to Ratho where we will regain the canal to head home.

My lead will end at Edinburgh Park {there’s football and a grand prix to watch!} but those wishing to go back to the start will stay on the canal.

Riding in a group requires consideration for others in the group and the leader and back marker. Please make sure your bike is roadworthy and that you have 2 spare inner tubes and basic tools to change an inner tube.  You will need to have water, a packed lunch, money for coffee/lunch stop and a bike lock.  Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help out as best as possible, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home.  Remember and bring some chocolate for the ride leader – just testing who reads to the end…
