Beecraigs

Group ride

Event description

The ride on Sunday is to Beecraigs Country Park (37 miles).

Please meet at the children’s play area at the top Redhall Park, close to the entrance to the canal at 9:45am for a 10am start.

We will follow the canal to  Heriot Watt,  where we can have a quick comfort break.

From there,  we follow route 75 to Kirknewton, East Calder and then  head through the Almondell Country Park.  We  then rejoin the canal to bypass Broxburn, and turn west on the B8020 to Ecclesmachan, West Binny, then head to North Mains before climbing to the Beecraigs Visitor Centre for lunch, (22 miles).

The Centre has  ample outdoor seating with wonderful views,  but the indoors café is likely to be busy. I think it would be best to bring a packed lunch. If the weather is poor we can alter the run and go down to Mannerstons/Rouken Glen café.

After lunch, we head down to Wester Ochiltree, Faucheldeen, Winchburgh, South Queensferry, Dalmeny and on  to Cramond Brig where the run will end, (37 miles).

The forecast currently is early rain turning to showers, and a moderate easterly wind.

The route is on good surfaced cycle track, or minor roads with the exception of one section at East Calder which is slightly rougher.  It should be suitable for most bikes, but there is an easy detour for anyone with skinny tyres.

Riding in a group requires consideration for others in the group. Our riding guidelines are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders.http://www.ctclothiansandborders.uk/riding-guidelines

At any turns, make sure the person behind sees you.

Please take note of my phone number 0750 7727222 in case you get separated from the group.

Please ensure your bike is roadworthy, and that you carry 2 spare inner tubes and tools.

You will need snacks, water,  lunch and a bike lock.

Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home.

Looking forward  to seeing you on Sunday.
