Active Travel Hustings - Northern Ireland

Event ride

Event description

Active Travel Hustings - Northern Ireland

Cycling UK and Sustrans are hosting Northern Ireland's Active Travel Hustings ahead of the Assembly elections 2022.

In Northern Ireland we have the lowest investment across the UK and Ireland in walking, wheeling and cycling. Political will has been shown as the most effective way to get people out of their cars and onto other forms of transport, so what are our candidates and parties promising to do if they make it into government this May?

This is your chance to hear from the parties about what they intend to do to end car dominance and provide healthy, sustainable options for transport in Northern Ireland.

We will be putting your questions to them and challenging them on 4 key areas of policy:

  1. How they will ensure the investment commitment from the Climate Change Act will lead to safe cycling infrastructure being built now.
  2. How they will pass an Active Travel Act which has the power to effect change within the Department for Infrastructure and Stormont more generally.
  3. How they will put walking, wheeling, and cycling at the heart of our communities, increasing their sustainability and liveability.
  4. How they will reduce our reliance on the car and improve the choice people have for transport.

Sustrans is the charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle. Sustrans work to ensure the Northern Ireland Assembly and local authorities deliver policies and projects that enable more people to walk, wheel and cycle to help reduce car dependency.
