An Aberdare Adventure

 A variety of options depending mainly on on weather and legs! Bring snacks but there will be places to top up along the ride. Leaving from Aberdare train station at 10.00 a.m. we will head up the Cynon Trail to Hirwaun and then Penderyn. A few miles out of Penderyn we turn off towards Ystradfellte and follow a beautiful road to the top of the Devils Elbow and amazing views down towards Heol Senni. Option A: return from here to Aberdare train station; moderate 30 miles. Or continue down the Devil’s Elbow to Defynog for a cafe stop or shop in Sennybridge. Option B: return the way we’ve come, climb the Devil’s Elbow and head back to Aberdare; moderate 42 miles and a strenuous climb. Option C: continue from Sennybridge and pick up a beautiful lane through Tralong and Cradoc to Brecon. Cafes available before heading along the Taff Trail to Merthyr. We’ll take the road with the steep climb after Talybont reservoir; moderate 55 miles and a strenuous climb. Train back from Merthyr or if you’ve any energy left it’s all down hill to Cardiff.
