Zobia Nisa
Despite only learning to ride in 2019 and purchasing her very first bike in March 2020, Zobia Nisa has already given so much back to the activity she now loves. A patient and generous ride leader, she has encouraged many other women to start cycling.

"My cycling journey has been incredibly rewarding and eye opening, mentally and physically – teaching me many skills whilst having fun. I work as a teacher and cycling has cultivated my passion for learning and teaching.
"I first learned to cycle with Peter (an amazing British Cycling instructor) in the summer of 2019! I felt like a baby, learning from the beginning how to sit and balance on a bike – it was so exciting! After three learn to ride sessions, I was out on the short six-mile rides. At first, I found it quite exhausting and it was hard work – due to being unfit! However, over time, I saw myself grow in strength, enjoying longer and faster rides.
"It is one of the best skills I’ve learned and the only sport I’ve remained loyal to.
"I absolutely enjoy being out in nature, exploring and having an adventure. I got my first bike just before lockdown, the timing couldn’t have been better! Due to coronavirus, I started working from home – with long hours in online sessions – cycling was an exciting break to look forward to! Cycling in empty areas which would normally be populated with crowds felt quite surreal, suddenly I had exclusive access to this huge playground!
"I feel blessed that cycling has provided me with many opportunities to meet amazing individuals in my community, enjoying social outings with cake and coffee! I’ve discovered so many beauty spots around Birmingham to which I was oblivious to. Now as a ride leader, I continue my cycling journey. Inspiring other women to enjoy life on two wheels, watching them persevere in overcoming their fears and obstacles really fills me with joy!"

Zobia was nominated for the 100 Women in Cycling by Joy Anibaba, who said:
"Zobia is always willing to help out existing ride leaders, especially with new riders. She is patient and kind. Her cheerful and happy disposition is encouraging to others. She is very hard working and has enabled us to target people from a low economic background, women and Black and other minority ethnic groups. Although culturally, many single and married BAME women do not cycle on their own, Zobia is an inspiration, showing how you can cycle safely on your own or in small groups.
