Liz Hodges is part of Cycling UK's 100 Women in Cycling 2018 list for starting a real gem of a shop, a place welcoming to every cyclist.

A qualified mechanic, Liz Hodges owns Route 2, ‘wee little bicycle shop’ in Topsham, Exeter. The shop prides itself on being open to everyone with no jargon. Liz says, “I want my bike shop to be welcoming to all; there’s too many shops that even I don’t feel comfortable going in – very male-led!”

Route 2 started as a cycle café in 2009, before the selling, hiring and fixing element expanded and took over. The café side is now rented, with Liz only too happy to put bikes before coffee.

I love to find the right bike to suit them and put a smile on their faces.

Liz says, “I really enjoy helping people to get the most out of cycling, whatever ability – from the local shopper to the ultra-endurance athlete, electric or hybrid, I love to find the right bike to suit them and put a smile on their faces.”

In her spare time, Liz rides and supports long distance charity rides – and is only too happy to give a mechanics lesson on route!

Cycling UK’s 100 Women in Cycling is an annual list celebrating inspirational women who are encouraging others to take part in this wonderful and life-enhancing activity.
