Emily Childs is one of a handful of women at the helm of a cycling clothing business and is part of Cycling UK's 100 Women in Cycling 2019 list for promoting and actively supporting inclusivity and equal representation in cycling.

Emily Childs, is the Managing Director at Attacus Cycling and while she had always been sporty growing up she didn't start cycling until she left university.

One of the most important aspects of cycling to Emily is building supportive communities. She said: "I think as adults, making new friends and learning new skills aren't always given much priority, but they're also hugely underrated. Through cycling I’ve met so many like-minded people and built up some amazing friendships, and now, through my company Attacus, I've been able to encourage and support other cyclists too. For me, that's what cycling's all about.

"I love the freedom it gives me, and the adventure that comes with it. I also love the confidence I feel when I am on a bike.

"If you’d told me when I first started cycling that I’d one day being saying that, I’d have laughed in disbelief. But building that confidence on the bike has helped me become a more confident personal all-round. It taught me that I am capable of learning new things if I give myself time, stick with it and have a bit of self belief - a lesson that’s valuable in all areas of life."

When Emily started cycling she found her confident and became more fearless than she ever thought she could be.

"As well as the more obvious health and environmental benefits of getting on a bike, that sense of achievement that comes with learning to ride is something I think more women should experience."

Nick nominated Emily for the 100 Women in Cycling and said: "Emily puts in a phenomenal amount of hours, alongside a full time job to make kit for Attacus CC. They are keen to promote women's cycling, more diverse cycling and give away free kit to riders of all shapes and sizes to promote the sport in general."
