Maureen Wilkins is part of Cycling UK's 100 Women in Cycling 2018 list for her dedication to helping those with the most complex needs get out cycling.

Maureen is a tutor at the Seashell Trust’s specialist college, Royal College Manchester, an independent specialist further education college for young people aged 19 to 25 who have severe or profound learning difficulties and disabilities. Maureen is passionate about giving young people with the most complex needs access to cycling. Thanks to her efforts every young person at the college now has regular access to quality cycling on a range of adapted bicycles, tricycles and quad cycles.

Maureen has organised the country’s first inter-specialist college sports event at Sports City in Manchester, which includes cycling. Fourteen different specialist colleges from across the North West now participate, with over 120 young people with special needs.  She also organised the first fully inclusive triathlon through British Triathlon’s Go Tri initiative, in which dozens of disabled and non-disabled children and young people take part.

Cycling UK’s 100 Women in Cycling is an annual list celebrating inspirational women who are encouraging others to take part in this wonderful and life-enhancing activity.
