Online bicycle mechanic workshops for women

We are inviting women to join Cycling UK's FREE online bicycle mechanic workshop. Due to social distancing measures it will take place in our "virtual classroom" where you can follow along in the comfort of your own home, learn how to fix your bike yourself, and have all your questions answered.

How to fix a puncture

Monday 10 August, 7:30pm, with Lorraine Dixon

Knowing how to fix a puncture is essential for any cyclist. It is the basic knowledge that will get you out of sticky situations yourself, and once you are confident enough to fix your own bike, you may even be able to help out others too.

Lorraine is a Cytech qualified mechanic and group leader for Joyful Bellas and Fellas, which proves she knows her stuff and is also an awful lot of fun to be around! In this class, you will get to follow along with the Lorraine as she gives a demonstration. If you get stuck, you can ask a question and Lorraine will help you out on the spot.

How to M-check your bike and do a basic service

Monday 17 August, 7:30pm, with Silvi Avendaño

Annoying creaks? Wobbly bits? Making sure your bike is roadworthy is not just about comfort it is also important to keep you going while riding.

Silvi is a BMX racer and coach. She runs BMX-ercise classes for women and has worked as a mechanic for Evans Cycles. She has fixed everything on a bike and created fun and welcoming environments, so you will be in the best hands during this introductory class. In this class she'll hand knowledge over to you, so you'll come away with all you need to carry out your own basic bike maintenance. The better you look after your bike, the longer it will last, and the safer you will be.

In this class, you will follow along with Silvia as she gives a demonstration. Every bike is different, so you can share your video screen and get live advice about your own bike as you work.
