The Bob Clift Cheshire Cycleway Challenge Rides are part of the Cycling UK Challenge Ride Series. They take place in June and are a great mid-season ride for regular and experienced cyclists alike.

The route starts in Old Waverton, and heads along Cheshire lanes to Delamere Forest, part of the Mersey Forest. Here you cross the Sandstone Ridge of which Cheshire is built and drop to the other side for a while. You will pass Oulton Park Racing circuit - listen out for cars and motorbikes noises as you pass.  The track was developed by Mid Cheshire Car Club and held its first meeting in 1953. You will pas through Cheshire Villages such as Eaton and Bunbury, with black and white buildings and sandstone churches - watch out for the pinfold near Little Budworth, one of four or five left out of 153 once (stray animals were put here overnight, to be released for a fee).  Take a slight detour near Peckforton to see the sandstone Elephant and Castle dating from 1859, before the iconic views of Beeston, built in 1220.  Crossing the canal a few times in your journey you will wind around the local lanes (with opportunities for a shorter ride) before returning to Waverton.
